Hike from Summerland to Indian Bar 🥾

Hike from Summerland to Indian Bar
Hike from Summerland to Indian Bar

To leave Summerland you have to find a way to cross a fast glacial stream with no bum ridge above a steep cliff, so we were glad to have scouted it yesterday.

Then you navigate Panhandle Gap, the highest peak on the Wonderland Trail around Mt. Rainier. We got a bit off track and actually went higher. That gap, and just after it, were all still covered in feet of snow and ice, at a super steep angle, making this the most dangerous and thrilling section of our planned trip. And indeed it got my heart racing!

Very few visible track to follow meant we spent time arguing about where the trail might be, beneath the snow, but we got there.

We saw an avalanche run itself down the mountain! From a couple hundred yards away, still incredibly powerful.

The long slow down climb to Indian Bar is like re-entering summer.
